How We Started !

Ruby Hills is a passion project of two close friends, Khorru Khanal and Deepak Adhikari.

Khorru was born and raised in Mogok and spent his childhood on the hills outside of the town. Deepak, born in Maymyo, moved to Mogok in 1985 and met Khorru-quickly becoming very close friends. The pair share a passion for quality and healthy produce and decided to explore coffee and tea in the region. The duo ventured into turning the hills of Khorru’s childhood nostalgia into their passion project; in fact, Ruby Hills Farm is where Khorru’s childhood home used to be. They made a decision to only use organic means of farming, regardless of what the production yields will be. They were motivated by the desire to provide other job opportunities in a town very focused on its precious gemstones. They moved to train and employ a community of harvesters, and The Ruby Hills was born out of a shared effort towards ethical farming, healthy and quality options for all.

New Beginnings !

The generation following the founder duo shares the same passion and curiosity that Khorru and Deepak do. Ruby Hills is not only a place where the families grew closer to each other through picnics but also as the place that sparked the new generation’s love for coffee and tea. The new generation is: Thiha Gyawali. Today, we find him experimenting with coffee processing techniques on the Ruby Hills, and coaching coffee connoisseurs at every level of the supply chain. The collaboration of generations has led to Ruby HIlls winning multiple awards at the national level, and we see a promising future of integrating the farm into even more of a community space.
